DESCRIPTION:Saturday September 26th\, 2026 | 10am\n$55 per person\nDiscover the art of traditional cornhusk doll making in this hands-on workshop led by Cherokee artist Laura Walkingstick. Participants will create a one-of-a-kind doll using natural materials such as soaked cornhusks\, twine\, and fabric scraps—guided through a step-by-step process rooted in cultural tradition and personal expression. \nEach doll becomes a symbolic creation\, whether it holds a memory\, story\, or simple intention. This is a relaxed\, creative space meant for those who want to slow down\, work with their hands\, and connect with a meaningful art form. \nThis workshop is designed for adults and older teens. It is not suitable for young children due to the reflective pace and materials used. \nYou’re welcome to bring meaningful fabric pieces (perhaps ones that carry memories of loved ones or hold special significance in your story) from home to incorporate into your doll’s clothing. \nLaura Walkingstick (Eastern Band Cherokee\, Wolf Clan) is a self-taught doll-maker and multidisciplinary artist based in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina. Her work draws from Cherokee traditions\, childhood memories\, and a deep interest in storytelling through handmade forms. DESCRIPTION:Saturday September 26th\, 2026 | 1pm\nChoose-Your-Price $30 – $5\nYou can’t haul enough compost to fix a mountain hillside\, but you can spray it\, and it leads to a huge improvement. \nThere’s a whole working crew living in a shovelful of good compost! Bacteria\, fungi\, protozoa\, nematodes\, all of them on your side. This workshop is about getting them out and onto your plants. \nJeff and Adam of The Soil Guys are running two hands-on demonstrations. First\, applying a fermented plant extract\, two different ways: as a foliar spray with a backpack sprayer and as a soil drench with a watering can. Then they’ll bring out a microscope and a Johnson-Su bioreactor. You’ll watch a compost sample before extraction and after\, on screen\, and see for yourself what comes out of a compost extraction and what stays behind. \nIf you’ve had a soil test come back with a pH\, a phosphorus number\, a potassium reading and a recommendation you’re not sure you trust\, this is the other half of that picture. Useful\, sure. It just doesn’t tell you what to actually do this weekend\, and it skips the half of your soil that’s alive. \nIn this class\, you’ll discover: \n\nHow compost extracts differ from raw compost\, and why extraction matters\nWhen to feed the leaves and when to feed the soil\nHow to use a backpack sprayer and a watering can to apply extracts at home\nWhat a healthy soil food web actually looks like under magnification\n\nWear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. The decorated sugar skull\, or calavera\, is its most recognizable face: cheerful rather than grim\, and a reminder that remembering can be joyful. \nIn this beginner level needle felting workshop with local fiber artist Kim Keelor\, you’ll craft your own Día de los Muertos mask from wool and silk. Bright\, bold\, and entirely your own. Once they’re loose\, getting them out is harder than anyone expects. \nIn this class\, Adam Bigelow addresses the issues and harms around both invasive plants and the overuse of synthetic herbicides to control and remove them. \nYou’ll learn both mechanical and chemical methods of controlling invasive plants\, what works\, what doesn’t\, and how to decide which approach fits your property. \nMost home-scale invasive plant problems can be handled without synthetic herbicides. On larger acreage\, herbicides are sometimes the only method that remains economically feasible.
