Franklin NC's Premier Independent Garden Center

When Spring Valley Nursery closed in 2017, Franklin needed a reputable, independent garden center to serve the local community. In 2018, Winding Stair reopened the location to provide a high-quality, diverse selection of plants, including perennials, shrubs, trees, edibles, evergreens, annuals, and houseplants.

In 2020, we opened our new retail building, featuring houseplants, gardening tools, pottery, gifts, and supplies. In 2021, we vastly expanded our commitment to providing native plants to the community; an important part of our mission to support local ecosystems and pollinators in the Southern Appalachian region.

Our specialty is native plants that thrive in mountain gardens. From native perennials and shrubs to trees and pollinator plants, we carry species specifically suited to Western North Carolina’s climate and elevation.
