How Much Mulch Do You Actually Need?
For most planting beds, two to three inches is the sweet spot. Enough to hold moisture and keep weeds down, not so much that you smother the roots.
Around trees and shrubs, go three to four inches, and keep it pulled back a few inches from the trunk. Mulch piled against bark holds moisture where you least want it and invites rot.
If you are topping up beds you mulched last year, measure what is already there and add the difference. You rarely need a full three inches on top of what has broken down.
What We Carry
We sell Daddy Pete’s bulk soil, the Lawn and Garden blend, by the scoop. A scoop is nine cubic feet, and buying bulk works out cheaper per cubic foot than bagged once you are covering any real ground.

Filling Raised Beds?
Raised beds swallow soil at a rate that surprises everybody. Before you fill one entirely with the good stuff, look into hugelkultur, which uses logs and woody debris in the bottom third of the bed. It cuts what you need to buy and it improves drainage as the wood breaks down.
