What counts as a conifer?

Simple: if it has needles or cones, it’s a conifer.

That includes pines, spruces, cedars, hemlocks, larches, plus arborvitae, cypress, and junipers. (Fun fact: those blue juniper “berries” are actually tiny, fleshy cones.)

We have over 70 varieties of conifers to choose from, including large trees and petite groundcover! Big or small, they’re all 30% off through Saturday, October 10.

Why Fall is the Season to Plant

Gardeners in the mountains know a secret: fall is the finest time to put plants in the ground. Warm soil keeps roots reaching and growing long after the leaves drop*, while cool air and autumn rain ease the stress on new plantings.

*And, while conifers don’t drop their needles in fall/winter, they don’t put out new ones either–as they go about conserving aboveground energy.

By spring, your plants are settled, sturdy, and ready to take off.

Stop in and let’s talk plants. You’ll love your visit to Winding Stair!
